ABOUT ME

A Quirky Illustrator

Ever since I was little I have always wanted to draw, paint and create artwork. I was so passionate about anything creative as a child and I had no idea how much it would become such a huge part of my character and personality as I grew up. I started my professional journey into art when I undertook a Foundation Course in Art, Design and Media at Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication. After successfully completing this course I went on to study Graphic Design and Illustration at the University of Hertfordshire.

I enjoy learning new things and being challenged which are most likely the reasons why I have had several unusual jobs. When I was a student at Ravensbourne I was also working three jobs at the same time. When I graduated from Hertfordshire I was working as a Christmas elf where I took groups of 30 people every 15 minutes through the grotto whilst doing carious creative activities at the same time. Probably the most rewarding job I have had so far, especially with all the different types of children and being able to create that Christmas magic.

Over the past 12 years I have worked within secondary schools  in London rebranding and standardising their promotional and marketing materials, managing various social media platforms, creating custom displays and resources as well as running several successful charity projects and  events.

I am most proud of the charity work that I carried out with Breast Cancer Now. For 6 years I held several BCN events and each year they became bigger and better. As a result of this charity work I became one of the faces of their wear it pink campaign because of the success we managed to achieve within our school community at the time. In just 6 years I was able to help raise £18,500 for this charity and enjoyed working with the team at Breast Cancer Now so much.

A lot of the tools, skills and methods I use within my personal work transfer into my professional work and my love of creativity is the driving force behind my work.

I tend to create the majority of my illustration/design work on my iPad pro using an apple pencil. Although I have really got back into doing sketchbook work with fine liners. I think the best way to describe my style of illustration would be quirky and cute. My work tends to be very vibrant, using a number of different textures and colours. I feel like I go through phases with my art where I really want to create nature based drawings and then sometimes I have random colour schemes and ideas that pop into my head. Sometimes a piece takes half an hour to complete other times 3 hours or more. If my artwork is able to make someone smile then I am happy. I try to create something everyday, whether it be a quick sketch, or a diy project, an embroidery piece or a finished piece. I try to update my tiktok and Instagram page as often as I can to keep it fresh and on trend.

So take a look around at my handdrawn digital portfolio.

Please get in touch with me if you have any questions or just want to leave a comment about my artwork, I would love to hear from you.

Thanks

Lois
